Experience & Qualifications
I work with a variety of clients, both individual and corporate,
on a wide range of projects. For example:
- Fiction: I’ve edited several novels and have recently
finished ghostwriting another. I’m currently at work on a novel
of my own.
- Legal writing: I've worked on several monthly newsletters for
employers, and I'm a former consultant and legal content provider
for www.leaplaw.com. My most recent
book, Self-Counsel’s Divorce Guide for Illinois, was released
in December 2003. I've also written a syndicated weekly column
about everyday legal issues.
- Food, health, and fitness: I’ve edited three books about fitness
and weight loss, and I’m a regular contributor to the Fat Fallacy
newsletter. I’ve also written restaurant reviews and numerous
recipes. Recently, I was the Editorial Director for the premiere
issues of Chicago Health & Beauty magazine.
Before I became a full-time freelancer, I was an editor at a large
legal publishing house. While there, I wrote numerous articles for
print and online subscribers. I also jointly edited several newsletters,
and researched and wrote HR How-to: Employee Retention. A
recognized expert in employment law issues, I have been quoted in
various press releases and the Chicago Tribune.
In my “former life” as an attorney, I drafted and edited client
materials such as employee handbooks. I also co-edited and updated
the “Federal Remedies” chapter of a book about bias and harassment
in the workplace (Employment Discrimination, 2000 Edition,
Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education).
I was a staff editor for New York University’s Journal of International
Law & Politics, as well as a frequent contributor to NYU’s
Law School Magazine. During a stint in London, I drafted
and edited letters and press releases for Anita Pollack, a Member
of the European Parliament. I also wrote “Clinton, Congress, and
the Courts: How Things Work (or Don’t) in the States,” a feature
in Regeneration, a magazine by and for members of the British
Labour Party.
I earned my law degree from NYU and my B.A. in Political Science,
cum laude, from Williams College. I’m a member of the Editorial
Freelancers Association, Chicago Women in Publishing, the Illinois
Bar, and the Society for Human Resource Management. |
